EEUU – La NASA continúa trabajando en hacer posible el regreso de astronautas a la Luna en los próximos años con la misión Artemis. De esta manera, hoy presentaron los trajes espaciales que usarán los hombres y mujeres que serán enviados.
Se trata un prototipo diseñado por la empresa Axiom Space, la cual fue seleccionada por la agencia espacial estadounidense para el desarrollo de los trajes que ayudarán a los astronautas a explorar la superficie lunar en 2025.
Lo anterior, debido a que éstos no habían sido rediseñados por completo desde 1981, por lo cual Axiom incluyó una serie de mejoras para hacerlos mucho más cómodos y útiles incluyendo nuevas herramientas.
¿Por qué son importantes los trajes?
Una de las principales funciones de una Unidad de Movilidad Extravehicular, nombre oficial de los trajes espaciales, es proteger a las personas de las temperaturas extremas en el espacio, ya sean altas o muy bajas.
Además de brindar oxígeno, lo cual les permite sobrevivir en el exterior, por lo cual un buen diseño es muy importante. De esta forma, Lara Kearney, gerente del equipo de trajes espaciales de la NASA, señaló que hay requerimientos muy estrictos para los trajes.
